Blue Devils and Karen Briggs

Marching bands have differing philosophies...some play to such technical perfection that they overlooked the very basis of playing in a band which in my opinion is musicianship. Without musicianship, i see them as just another piece of machinery.

this band - Blue Devils might not be the best in terms of technical perfection as compared to the Cavaliers (they have this moto "Building the machine"), but they certainly do play with passion (just look at the conductor) which prolly explains why they still hold the record of the most championships. Not only have they won the hearts of the judges, but also the audiences.

Enjoy =)

and this is just a warm-up before the real competition!

speaking of passion for music..i believe this is the perfect example. Although the song is kinda old..but it's still one of the best live performance.. =)
apologies for the long video...the exciting part starts in the 3rd minute..and i assure you it's worth the wait... =)

don't you just love the pizzicato (plucking of strings) passage? =)

Now I know why the VI Band sounds, look and acts like they did in the competition warm-up. Haha. The Blue Devils is VI's inspiration after all. See for yourself when you come back, ok?
